Look Him in the Eye

Psalm 32:8 – “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.”
When our children are young and in need of instruction or discipline, many times we find ourselves saying, “Look me in the eye while I’m speaking to you.” Why do we say this? Because they aren’t giving us their full attention, and if they don’t give us their full attention they aren’t going to grasp or retain what we are trying to teach them.
How many times have we as Christians gone through a time of testing (training) in our lives and have looked everywhere for answers, but we failed to look to the One Who has all of the answers? We can even be sitting with an open Bible in our laps, but not looking Him in the eye as we read. Instead we are fretting, or trying to figure out how we can fix the situation in our own power. Satan is the master distractor. Our Lord can be trying to teach us something and we are looking at all the distractions and deceptions that the devil is throwing in front of us instead of right into our Savior’s eye.
Just as we want to have our child’s full attention as we train them up in the Lord, God desires our full attention as we walk through life as His child. Let’s determine to look full in His face. Even when the path seems dark, hold to His unchanging hand and look Him in the eye as He guides us along the path He has chosen for us. He never has His eyes closed, He never has His back turned. He’s always there waiting for us to look Him in the eye. Jesus never fails!
